Shanda L. Lewis obtained her undergraduate degree from Dillard University and her law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Additionally, she earned her Master’s in Business Administration from the Executive MBA program at Millsaps College.        

During Shanda’s undergraduate years at Dillard University, she majored in English Education. Shanda was very active both on campus and off campus. Shanda was a writer for the school newspaper, The Courtboullion”, in student government, a member of the newly formed Pre-Alumni Council, and continued to be an Honors Scholar. Shanda also participated in local and state political affairs and community service which focused on area schools. Shanda was and continues to be involved in service through her lifetime commitment in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  which focuses on economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, political awareness and involvement, and physical and mental health.

During law school, Shanda worked as a library assistant in the law library and had the prestigious opportunity to intern with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. She had the opportunity to try misdemeanor cases and work in both the civil and criminal divisions as well as provided vital research and briefs to the various attorneys.

Upon graduation from law school, Shanda had a most interesting position to both and manage a satellite office for a personal injury firm located in Jackson, Mississippi. The satellite office was in Meridian, Mississippi, her hometown. It was a great honor to be home helping and serving clients primarily in the areas of bankruptcy and personal injury. Also while serving in her hometown, Shanda became the first African American and the first female municipal assistant prosecutor for the City of Meridian.  Shanda implemented many alternative sentencing methods and counseling options to help the people of her city.

Shanda later went to work for two insurance defense firms. Her main areas of practice were Professional Liability, Commercial Business, and Mass Torts. This experience has enabled Shanda with the knowledge and experience of having both plaintiff’s and defense prospective which will now be utilized to help her clients in personal injury. Shanda also became a member of the Charles Clark Inn of Courts during this time.

Subsequently, Shanda served as a public servant as a Senior Deputy City Attorney for the City of Jackson, Mississippi. She served as the attorney for the Departments of Planning, Zoning, Historical Preservation, Housing, Transportation, and Economic Development. Additionally, Shanda was a litigator for the City handling mostly personal injury, statutory immunity, and employment cases.

Allowing her MBA skill sets to be utilized, Shanda also worked for the City of Charlotte, North Carolina in the transit department, Charlotte Area Transportation System as a contract administrator coordinator and procurement officer. This fast-paced financial and negotiation based career served to hone Shanda’s skills in negotiation and public service.

Shanda is licensed in the State of Mississippi.

Shanda joined NST in February 2022, and works out of the Tupelo, Mississippi office. Shanda’s practices areas include automobile accidents and other personal injuries.

Shanda enjoys reading from several genres and writing poetry and fiction. She is also an avid lover of music. Shanda also enjoys the beach, traveling, being a mentor and enjoying her family and Godchildren.

Serving people has always been Shanda’s passion and her reason for wanting to be an attorney. While she has extensive experience in several areas of law, her passion for people has never changed. This passion has led her to NST to serve people.
