Laura M. Owings

Laura Owings moved to Memphis at the early age of seven. She graduated from Evangelical Christian School (ECS) in 1998. Thereafter, Ms. Owings attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas as a Provost Scholarship Recipient from 1998 through 2002. She received her baccalaureate degree in history. While in college, Ms. Owings participated in many activities, and she was the Marketing Editor of the school yearbook and volunteered in Steppin’ Out, a community service organization to provide help to the needy. Ms. Owings then decided to fulfill her dream of becoming an attorney, and after a little encouragement from her mother, she attended the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

While in law school, Ms. Owings achieved much academic success, whereby she received the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award in 2006 and was the William B. Leffler Scholarship Recipient from 2003 and 2004. She also served as a Notes and Comments Editor for the University of Memphis Law Review and graduated magna cum laude, as she had the sixth highest grade point average in her law school class. It was during this time that Ms. Owings completed a summer internship with the United States Postal Service, Law Department, where she researched employment law issues, and she has worked as a technical writer at International Paper. These internships gave Ms. Owings valuable insight into the real world, which has served her well in her law career.

Ms. Owings’ academic success stemmed from hard work and determination. She carries this same work ethic into the practice of law. In October 2007, Ms. Owings joined the law firm of Nahon, Saharovich & Trotz and soon began working in the Automobile Accident Practice Group, representing clients who had been injured due to the negligence of others. Currently, her main area of practice is nursing home litigation, where she has developed a passion for helping clients who have been the victims of nursing home neglect and abuse. Ms. Owings chose her field because nursing home abuse affects some of the most vulnerable members of society, and the number of claims are predicted to rise as the baby boom generation ages. Ms. Owings believes that every person should be treated with dignity, but especially elderly or infirm people who cannot otherwise help themselves. Ms. Owings is licensed to practice law in both Tennessee and Georgia.

Ms. Owings’ academic achievements have prepared her to be an excellent legal researcher and writer, and she utilizes this strength to help advocate for her clients. Indeed, over the course of her career, she has written many court briefs to help advance her clients’ causes. Ms. Owings knows that the ability to properly research the law and provide compelling arguments to the court are instrumental in the successful outcome of each case.

Ms. Owings is an avid college football fan and enjoys reading and spending her spare time with her husband and daughter.

If you or a loved one has a question about nursing home abuse or neglect in Tennessee or Georgia, please contact Ms. Owings to discuss a potential case today. Ms. Owings is very compassionate, and she will patiently listen to the facts and circumstances presented.
