Prescription Drugs & Medications
Drug companies have a duty to adequately research and study medications as well as warn patients about the potential risks of taking these drugs, or they risk having their products recalled by the FDA. Use of some medications has shown to result in significant side effects, including death, indicating that these products were prematurely and/or wrongly introduced into the market. At Nahon, Saharovich & Trotz, we are a full-service personal injury law firm committed to helping individuals injured by unsafe drugs and medications recover the damages to which they are entitled.NST Law is currently reviewing claims for the following prescription drugs:
Invokana - Type 2 Diabetes Medication
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that this type 2 diabetes medication “may lead to ketoacidosis, a serious condition . . . that may require hospitalization.” Common symptoms of ketoacidosis include vomiting, muscle aches, headaches, and rapid breathing, among other symptoms. If left untreated, ketoacidosis can result in diabetic comas or death. In some cases, patients taking Invokana required hospitalization due to kidney failure resulting from their use of the medication.
Risperdal - Antipsychotic Drug
Resperidone, typically referred to by its brand name Risperdal, is an antipsychotic medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. In some cases, the medication is used for off-label treatment of depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), sleep disorders, and anxiety disorders. Unfortunately, use of this medication has been found to result in gynecomastia, a condition that causes boys and young men to grow abnormally large breasts. These breasts typically resemble female breasts and, in some cases, cause boys and young men to produce breast milk.
Viagra - Erectile Dysfunction Medication
Viagra, perhaps the most well-known erectile dysfunction medication, has been recently linked to a substantially increased risk of melanoma, the most life-threatening form of skin cancer. A study published in the highly-respected Journal of the American Medical Association evaluated more than twenty-five thousand (25,000) men and noted that the men who used Viagra were eighty-four percent (84%) more likely to develop melanoma.
Xarelto - Blood Thinner
This medication, a blood thinner intended to prevent blood clots, has been found to be connected with severe side effects such as internal bleeding of the brain and gastrointestinal system. In severe cases, the medication and its side effects can result in death. Litigation regarding Xarelto on behalf of injured parties is ongoing.
Zofran - Anti-nausea Medication
Zofran is an anti-nausea medication often prescribed to people experiencing nausea as a result of undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Despite never being approved for use by pregnant women, Zofran’s manufacturer promoted this medication for morning sickness during pregnancy. It has been discovered that when taken during pregnancy Zofran passes through the placenta and is passed to the unborn child, resulting in birth defects including holes in the heart, skull deformities, cleft lips, cleft palates, and club foot.
