Aurelia Patterson is a native of Memphis, TN where she attended Central High School. While in high school, Ms. Patterson was a member of Memphis Prep, a program allowing high school students to attend prep schools across the country. As a member of Memphis Prep, Ms. Patterson was able to spend a summer studying at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. Upon completion of high school, Ms. Patterson attended Vanderbilt University where she was very involved in several extracurricular activities. Ms. Patterson graduated from Vanderbilt in 2012 with a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Human and Organizational Development.

After living in Nashville for four years, Ms. Patterson was anxious to return to Memphis and began her legal education at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. While attending law school, Ms. Patterson was the recipient of various scholarships, including the Memphis Access to Law and Diversity Scholarship provided the law school, as well as the Judge Rita Stotts Scholarship provided by the Association of Women Attorneys. While learning the law, Ms. Patterson was dedicated to assisting the legal community in any way possible. Due to her pro bono and public service work, Ms. Patterson received the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award in 2014, as well as recognition from the Supreme Court of Tennessee in 2015. Ms. Patterson served as Research Assistant for Professor Daniel Kiel, whose main area of study was the intersection of race and education. While in law school Ms. Patterson also served as a Student Justice on the Student Honor Council, Associate Chief Justice of Mock Trial while on the Moot Court Board, and also served on the Executive Board of the Black Law Students Association. Ms. Patterson developed her oral argument skills while serving as a member of the Fredrick Douglass Moot Court travel team, where she and her teammate were regional semi-finalists in 2014. Ms. Patterson received her Juris Doctor in May of 2015.

Upon graduation from University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Ms. Patterson joined a general practice law firm, where she focused on consumer bankruptcy matters. Prior to joining Nahon, Saharovich and Trotz, Ms. Patterson served as Assistant General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services where she represented the State of Tennessee in Dependency and Neglect cases. Ms. Patterson has a wide array of knowledge and unique perspective that makes her a valuable asset to the firm.

Ms. Patterson remains a resident of Memphis with her daughter. She enjoys reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Ms. Patterson is also very involved with REACH Memphis, formerly known as Memphis Prep, which allows high school students to attend prep schools across the country at little to no cost. Ms. Patterson has served as a mentor since returning to Memphis in 2012. Ms. Patterson’s goal is to use her law degree to give back to the community that she grew up in, while being a voice for those who are often voiceless.
