The students participated in Prom Promise, a program designed to urge students not to drive drunk to and from prom. The program included a mock car accident.

According to the Tennessean, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (“THP”) set up sobriety checkpoints throughout Tennessee on March 17 and 18, 2012. Fifty DUI checkpoints were set up in Tennessee cities such as Memphis, Nashville, Jackson, and Knoxville. THP officials checked for drivers licenses and searched for drunk drivers. The checkpoints coincided with St. Patrick’s Day weekend, a time when people are more likely to drink and drive.
