According to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, students at Community High School in Shelbyville, Tennessee, learned about the dangers of drinking and driving in March 2012. The students participated in Prom Promise, a program designed to urge students not to drive drunk to and from prom. The program included a mock car accident.
According to the Tennessean, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (“THP”) set up sobriety checkpoints throughout Tennessee on March 17 and 18, 2012. Fifty DUI checkpoints were set up in Tennessee cities such as Memphis, Nashville, Jackson, and Knoxville. THP officials checked for drivers licenses and searched for drunk drivers. The checkpoints coincided with St. Patrick’s Day weekend, a time when people are more likely to drink and drive.
According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, a Shelby County (TN) Sheriff’s Office patrolman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (“DUI”) and public intoxication in Cordova, Tennessee, on February 20, 2012. Around 4:00 p.m. 
According to the Tennessean, a survivor of a near-fatal drunken driving car accident will address 440 high school students in Nashville, Tennessee, in November 2011.  The accident occurred in 1994, when the speaker was 17 years old.  After drinking alcohol at a Knoxville bar, the speaker decided to drive himself home.  He lost control of his vehicle and eventually crashed into a tree.  He was airlifted to a Knoxville hospital where he was comatose for…
