The law firm of Nahon, Saharovich & Trotz, also known as NST, has 24 lawyers and a staff of over 80 including paralegals, office personnel, and investigators that have the experience and resources necessary to fully investigate and help individuals who have been severely injured using the diabetes drug known as Avandia.

Avandia has been linked to serious health problems, specifically the following:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH)
  • Sudden Death

Avandia is a prescription drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and has been used to help control the blood sugar levels of patients suffering from type 2 diabetes.

In 2007, the FDA issued a safety alert and published a letter on its website stating that, "safety data from controlled clinical trials have shown that there is a potentially significant increase in the risk of heart attack and heart-related deaths in patients taking Avandia." Studies did show an increased risk of heart problems by a factor of 30-40% for those patients who were taking Avandia.

February 22, 2010 - Confidential studies by FDA officials recommend that GlaxoSmithKline's Avandia, a diabetes medicine, get pulled from the market because it is linked to heart attacks.

After a two-year inquiry, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee concluded that GlaxoSmithKline was aware of a possible link between Avandia and heart attacks as far back as 2004. Their findings also have uncovered that GlaxoSmithKilne tried to intimidate independent scientists researching the risks of Avandia. The two-year Senate inquiry also concluded that GlaxoSmithKline had deliberately misrepresented medical data to rebut safety concerns over its highly profitable Avandia product.

One study that was reviewed by the FDA found that Avandia had contributed to more than 83,000 excess heart attacks over eight years. Cardiologist Steven Nissen of the Cleveland Clinic is one of Avandia's leading critics and he concluded that Avandia increases the risk of heart attacks by up to 43%.
